In this article, we will analyse the relationship between political choices and actions and discourse, considering discourse itself as an action.Wewill first of all focus our attention on the history of the political designations "mountain”, “Gironde” and “sans-culottes”, which seem to us to relate to a complex system of hetero-designation and auto-designation. Once accepted, these words were used by all the political players. The same also applies to certain concepts such as the apology for "poverty" and "modesty”, which were not exclusively the domain of the Mountain. Therefore, the latter was distinguished by the use of certain expressions, as the invitation to “republicanise trade” demonstrates.
